A Science Backed Life Hack for Wellness

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. The content written and published in this article is for informational purposes only. It is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice and should not be relied on as health or personal advice. Most of this information is taken and learned by me from the book “The Cellular Wellness Solution” written by Bill Rawls, MD.

It is so important to understand how cosmetics and skin care affect our bodies. What we put on our skin, gets absorbed into our bodies like the food we eat. In short, our skin absorbs bacteria from anything it touches, which goes into our systems and into our cells. So, whatever that was made up of, will now be inside us. The key to staying well at any age is to keep our cells healthy, and as many areas as that embarks, what we put on our skin is a major one.

The approach to health and healthcare is in the midst of a shift. The healthcare system offers a lot of good that should not be ignored, and has saved millions of lives. It is clear that we would be at loss without medical solutions as anesthesia and innovative technologies for surgery and therapy. However, medical therapies have little capacity to prevent illnesses from happening, or restore wellness once it's lost. When herb therapy began to be heard, craziness surged. People began to realize that for years drugs had helped hold their illnesses in place, never getting rid of it but controlling it. On the other hand, herbs were a key factor in boosting health beyond illness and back into cellular wellness.

From this point forward, we, as individuals with health, have a big role to take charge of. I am here to show you a little bit of what we can do to prevent illnesses and remain in a state of well-being, with the help of the biggest healer: nature.

First off, I will share some unpopular truths. In society, the accumulation of constant symptoms has become accepted and seen as a normal part of aging. Examples are, knee pain, lack of sleep, painful uncomfort. For most chronic illnesses, medical therapies can reduce symptoms and slow down progression, but the chances of the patient restoring to a state of well-being are small. With drug therapy, patients will be able to manage a never ending state of chronic illnesses. With herbs, they will be able to heal underlying factors (damaged cells) which cause the illnesses.

Another unpopular truth is that problems weren't addressed until they occurred. The key is preventing illness so that we don't have to address any problems in the future.

Here are 5 factors (recognized by science) that promote chronic illness and cancer:

  1. Poor Diet: Contributes to diabetes and heart disease, and many other illnesses.

  2. Toxic Environment: Contributes to respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses, autoimmune disease and a range of chronic conditions.

  3. Mental Stress: Contributor to all major illnesses. Disrupts sleep.

  4. Physical Stress: Trauma or excess strain, have detrimental effects on the body. Being sedentary stagnates the body.

  5. Microbial Stress: Bacteria infections, viruses.

Easy ways to prevent these factors:

  1. Poor Diet: Eat real, whole food. Cut sugars and flour.

  2. Toxic Environment: Water filters, stop drinking from plastic water bottles, and buy organic food!

  3. Mental Stress: Watch caffeine intake, turn off lighted screens by 9pm (or use blue light protection), try being in bed by 10:30pm.

  4. Physical Stress: Move your body, but don't push it to the limit, and walk!

  5. Microbial Stress: If everything (above) is in balance, this will too.

Now that we know this, I want to share a little more about a science backed life hack with you: herbs. The power of herbs is central to maintain or rebuild wellness. Taking herbs does not mean we become immortal. It is simply acknowledging that aging is normal and does not need to be accompanied by disease if we keep cells healthy.

When we have a symptom in our bodies, pain, acne, spots, constipation, e.t.c. it is telling us that cells in our body are stressed or injured. We don't have to panic, don't worry. Symptoms are actually a good thing, because our bodies are speaking to us and asking for attention where it is needed. Absolutely everything that happens inside our bodies results from the actions of cells. It is so mind-blowing when you actually think of it. Cells are working in synchrony all day, to make our hearts beat, our eyes see and our brains think.

As we learn this, we realize the power we have in what our cells absorb. Explaining herbs in short goes like this: All herbs contain hundreds of phytochemicals. Phytochemicals give plants color, tastes and aroma, and are also what make up the plant's intelligence. What I mean by intelligence is that phytochemicals serve functions like defense, protective properties and regulatory systems. Plants are exposed to so many threats in the wild. Free radicals, chemicals, radiation, stress and being consumed by other organisms. Phytochemicals protect the plant from these threats.

“When we consume herbs, we adopt the plant's natural ability to protect itself against microbes, counteract a wide variety of stress factors, and maintain internal balance.”

This is the magic of herbs! Because plants use a chemical language similar to ours, herbs have the effect of normalizing our disrupted hormones and neurotransmitters. When cells are protected from all of these stress factors, they remain less stressed and more functional.

“The plant's signaling agents shift the plant's internal environment to match changes in the outside environment, such as temperature and light… Interestingly, the chemical structures of many plant signaling phytochemicals are similar to or do the same as our hormones and
neurotransmitters.”

I know this is a lot of information to take in. I have taken a long, complex book and turned it into this article. I really want to emphasize to my readers that understanding this information, provides answers. It is simple. If we protect the cells of our bodies, herbs help create an environment for us to heal from the inside out. Herbs counteract the 5 factors (recognized by science) that promote chronic illness and cancer.

Now I will enlist two basic herbs that can potentialize health and allow you to enjoy the ride in this thing we call life:

Ashwaganda:

  • Reduction in stress-related anxiety by balancing the HPA axis (Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis)

  • Improves sleep quality

  • Beneficial effects in cognitive functions

  • Reduction of hot flashes related to menopause

  • Restores depressed testosterone levels in men

Hawthorn:

  • Greater efficiency of heart contractions

  • Reduction in irregular heartbeats

  • Improved blood flow

  • Improved exercise tolerance

  • Normalization of blood pressure in hypertensive individuals (without affects people without hypertension)

  • Protect stomach lining

  • Supports normal digestion

  • Anti-inflammatory properties

  • Calming effect of nervous system

To gain benefits from herbal phytochemicals, potency and consistency are key. Herbs can be consumed in so many forms. Powder supplements, pills, tinctures, in water (tea), and on skin!

The skincare industry is- another whole article- a huge spectrum. I insist that using 100% natural skincare is essential for the absorption of nutrients though skin. Well sourced natural skin care is full of plants, oils and organisms that are food to our skin and benefit us. Let me remind you, what we put on our skin we absorb all the way into our cells! Changing our skin routines by using natural products is one of the easiest and quickest ways to obtain the benefits of herbs, oils and organisms for cell protection.

Here are a few brands I highly recommend (because of quality and ingredients) if you want to switch up a few things in your skincare routine, to something 100% natural and effective.

I trust these brands with my heart, and have used them all before. All my best,

Xoxo, Stella.
